{"id":3723,"date":"2012-07-20T20:56:09","date_gmt":"2012-07-21T03:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stirringthefire.org\/blog\/?p=3723"},"modified":"2013-04-24T17:10:13","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T00:10:13","slug":"begin-to-understand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philborges.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/20\/begin-to-understand\/","title":{"rendered":"Begin to Understand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">by Alissa Brooks<\/p>\n<p>Post-production is in full swing here at the Foundation for Women offices in San Diego. \u00a0For the past ten hours our workshop participants have made storyboards, transcribed, selected quotes, edited audio &#8230; and the end is nowhere in sight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Film is a team effort, but when you&#8217;re a photographer it&#8217;s a solo effort,&#8221; explains <a title=\"Michele Zousmer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.michelezphotography.com\/\">Michele Zousmer<\/a>, one member of Stirring the Fire&#8217;s social documentary workshop. \u00a0Teamwork is essential to pull all the pieces of media together to make a coherent, consistent, and concise documentary.<\/p>\n<p>Michele resides in San Diego but has traveled around the world with her camera, including to China, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. \u00a0In the past week, she has traveled all around San Diego with her team\u00a0documenting a Foundation for Women hero who is not only an\u00a0entrepreneur, but a wife, mother, and singer.<\/p>\n<p>Michele says,\u00a0&#8220;Being a humanitarian photographer, I tell a story through visual imagery, which is a powerful tool to tell a story.
