During the Soviet control of Mongolia, all but four of the country's
seven hundred Tibetan monasteries were destroyed, and over 100,000
Tibetan Lamas were either executed or went underground. As a young
monk, Manalsuren was forcibly conscripted into the Soviet-controlled
Mongolian Army. He is now one of over 1000 Tibetan Lamas who have
"reappeared" in Mongolia since the fall of the Soviet
Empire. (Mongolian) |
