Once owning almost 200 cattle, Leleur was considered wealthy. He had raised three sons and six daughters with two wives. Two months before this photograph was taken, however, he lost all his cattle in a raid. Stealing a few cattle has always been a tolerated game between warriors of competing tribes. However, as the drought has progressed the raids have grown much more dangerous as the AK-47 has replaced the spear as the weapon of choice. Samburu Tribe
