Naye’s family lives near Ethiopia’s Lower Omo River.
When I went to the river to get some water, Naye followed me there.
Grabbing my arm protectively, he pointed out a crocodile, then took
my pail and filled it for me in the muddy river. He then walked
over to a bush, broke off a branch, and used it to stir the dark-brown
liquid. Within seconds the mud settled, leaving crystal-clear water.
