Over the last few weeks we have been spending a lot of time getting to know the community at SoulFood Books. Sadly during this time Adam’s mother passed away from cancer.
Now that Adam is no longer living at Ron’s, he has either been house sitting or staying with friends he knows at SoulFood Books. We filmed this interview near a small river that runs behind SoulFood Books where Adam has been spending time meditating.
After returning to Seattle and spending two months, somewhat isolated in Ron’s garage, Adam and Ron both agreed that it was time for Adam to move out and start interacting with a larger social sphere. Adam left and went to the one community in the Northwest
Adam’s last couple of months in Ron’s garage haven’t been without its challenges. Ron had just moved in with his girlfriend Melanie a month before and decided to let Adam stay in the garage, even though Ron had planned to use the space to start writing about his time in Iraq.
Adam has told us on multiple occasions that our interviews are helping him. He has been very forthcoming and honest with his feelings and descriptions of what he is going through, both the good and the bad.
I have been following Adam now for 17 months and watching as he attempts to navigate his mental distress. It has become very apparent that, for a person like Adam, finding help while navigating the social stigmas he faces is a challenging process to say the least.

While Adam was in the hospital after having his jaw broken, the police came to his hospital room so he could identify his attackers from mug shots. Adam told me that he was getting out of the hospital that evening.
